A note from the chef

When I was a child I was a big fan of our local commercial bakeries. I remember a time when I would eat brownies with lots of cashew nuts on top or eat a Strawberry cake with the taste of real fresh strawberries so distinct that whenever I would eat it I have Strawberry Shortcake the cartoon girl on my mind. As the years went by, the cashew nuts on the brownies became fewer and the taste of strawberry became artificial.

So I went ahead and baked my own cake and brownies at home with lots of nuts and full of flavor. I studied baking both here and abroad to widen my knowledge. I tested several receipes uniquely my own over and over until I got it right and since my father is diabetic, I got reprimanded constantly when my creations was sweet. My father became my sugar controller.

I conceptualize a bakery & cafe way back 2001. I wanted to serve only high quality and unique products. I wanted to make it my own and not just copy from existing bakeries at that time. So I experimented, I took an ordinary chocolate cake and added my own twist to it. I experimented on flavor and ingredient combination that has never been tried before and thus Wheatberry Bakery & Cafe was born on October 2004.

My staff and I are proud of what we have acheived over the years. It may not have been perfect most of the time, we made our mistakes but we strived to learn from it and that is what’s important.

Wheatberry Bakery & Cafe would not stand on its own now and continue to give out high quality products if not for our dedicated bakers, cake decorators, dining staff, administration staff and also our guards who give their best everyday so Wheatberry Bakery & Cafe can open everyday at 8am. They are my hands.

Over the years we have our loyal
customers who go to our bakery everyday, Senor Bobby who was at our cafe almost every day when we started, Mrs. Tuson who is a big fan of our mamon tostado, Mr. Pimentel who drinks coffee at our place and entertains our guests at the same time, Ms. Atienza who always have her special occasion cakes made at Wheatberry. And all our customers, thank you for your trust and for always patronizing our products.

There is nothing like seeing your dream come true and seeing it in the faces of people who share it with you. It is truly rewarding.

Welcome to Wheatberry Bakery & Cafe
